Before
The customer had
spent good money on composite decking (just five years ago) and
now faced spending more. Fortunately, I was able to work with
some of the original frame, all the composite decking and some
of the footings. |
 |
After
Adjusting the height of the outer carrying beam by reinstalling
the 6x6 posts, achieved the level from side to side. New
concrete footings, concrete slab landings for the new staircases
and securing the deck to the rim joist solved the code issues.
Extending the deck framing 8 inches on all sides allowed us to
build in structure to the handrail system. Our through bolt
design for the Newels maximizes the strength of the handrail
system.

Before
Sometimes it’s difficult to
see the full extent of water damage just by looking at a wall.
However, there are some indicators of further damage that can be
seen by a trained eye. The customer called me because they
noticed mold growing on the wall in their dining room, but, this
gable end turned out to be a Pandora’s Box of damage (and it had
just been worked on 4 years earlier).
Having removed the siding, the
damaged sheathing was black with mold. The exact areas where the
water got in are now easy
to see. |

• Finished, plastered ceiling with maximum
ceiling
height.
• Lots of closet space (3 actually)
• A full Bathroom
• New windows
• Access to laundry room / boiler room.
|
 |
After
The customer asked us to
wrap the steel column but to leave the beautiful fir
beam exposed

Siding

Before
All too often we meet nice
people that have “friends and family” that have helped
them out with remodeling projects and have caused
greater problems. This deck was attached to the house,
directly over the cedar shingle siding. No ledger
flashing, no drainage space, no reveal between the
decking and the siding.
To compound the problem, the deck was nailed into the
north side of the house where it got no direct sunlight.
One can see that this would be a challenge for any
siding (to withstand that much constant moisture).

Window
Replacement

|
Before
Our customer wanted to
replace their 18 year old non-functioning vinyl windows.
They were letting a lot of heat out (and cold in). The
windows mechanisms for raising and lowering had broken.
Also, This customer wanted
to achieve a certain look. Although this home was built
in the mid seventies, its new look was to be a mid
1800’s rustic homestead. |
After
The Customer chose
Roughsawn Red Cedar to create the window surrounds. We
maufactured the surrounds (glued, screwed, primed and
Painted) as a one piece unit. Soldered, Copper drip caps
give the trim a durable and beautiful accent.

Before
Besides the fact that the paint was
peeling off the corner board this corner appears to be
structurally sound. Leaking corner trim caused
structural failure of the framing that held the corner
of the house from collapse. 40 years of neglect almost
cost this homeowner their whole house. While the house
is being carefully raised and supported, the rotten
framing and 6” x 6” sill are surgically removed. |

 |
After
New corner framework and sill are
woven into the wall and re-secured to the foundation.
After re-sheathing, residing and a classic paint job,
the corner looks great and does its job. This corner
looks good AND supports the entire house.

Stair
Repair

|
Before
An unknowledgeable contractor attached a set of stairs
directly over siding causing damage to EVERYTHING behind his
attachment point. The customer called to ask me why their 10yr
old stairs swayed in the wind. New floor joists were sistered to the undamaged sections of
the older joists. A new foundation sill was notched into the old
one. |

 |
After
A new rim
joist, sheathing, flashing, siding, paintjob and Azek kick plate make the old stairs look right at home. Before
this repair, this home would not have passed an inspection.
After our repair, it sold in two weeks.

Gable
Repair

|
Before
The rake
fascia and soffit detail of this gable end had leaked
due to improper construction and neglectful painting.
The damage extended through the trim, siding, sheathing
and into the framing. This damage was excavated and
treated with a clear penetrating epoxy resin. This epoxy
soaks into all affected fibers, kills the bacteria that
causes dry rot and stops when it reaches “good wood”. |
 |
After
The area
was re-supported with framework, sheathed, resided and
trimmed. The bird family was kicked out but the family
that owned the home was relieved. |

Custom
Window

|
Before
This early
century attic was converted to a bedroom and was in need
of light. The customer designed this window and we had
it fabricated. We have relationships with several local
and national window manufacturers. With our experience
and your imagination, nothing is impossible. The Old
window had an improperly installed storm window that
caused the windowsill to rot. The resulting damage to
the wall’s Framing, sheathing, Insulation,
foundation-sill, drywall and siding was extensive.
|
 |
After
The sill
and framework had to be replaced. New sill, framing,
insulation, drywall, sheathing, window, interior and
exterior trim, siding and paint job. Much more than the
customer expected, but they are happy that the wall is
now sound. |
